| Sanmachi Suji is the central area of Takayama city. 'San' is three, 'machi' is town and 'suji' here means street so 'sanmachi suji' consists three towns like ich-no-machi, ni-no-machi and san-no -machi and streets. There are traditional coffee shops, restaurants, souvenir shops selling 'geta', 'bowl' 'washi' (Japanese paper) and more. 'Manekineko' and 'karakuri' doll (beckoning doll) are welcoming you at some shops. When using 'jinrikisha', he brings you along the streets. He gives some explanation of traditional shops, restaurants and historic background of the town. It costs around 1,000 yen/ hour. |
